Buddy
Schrader, author of Blessings from the Good Earth, spoke to the
last Friends of Rylander Library meeting. Schrader talked to the
members about rural life on a farm during the 1930's and 1940's.
Buddy's father was a dry land farmer near Gonzales Texas. Buddy's
talk about life back then brought back many fond memories to some
of the members of his audience. Mr. Schrader touched on chapters
on health remedies, water and electricity, hog butchering, picking
cotton and Fred, the 4-H champion pig.

During
the business meeting, members voted to purchase a digital microfilm
scanner and voted to get some of the trees around the library professionally
trimmed. The next scheduled meeting of the Friends group will be
November 20th. Sharon Parker from Random House will be the guest
speaker.
